Chronic sinusitis can have a serious impact on your quality of life. But symptoms such as chronic sinus drainage can be caused by problems such as blocked sinus openings or sinus openings that are too small. Medications may not be able to control problems related to the anatomy of your sinuses. In cases such as these, doctors may recommend surgery to improve drainage.
Smart Sinus™ is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that’s used for the treatment of sinusitis. It is safe and it’s been clinically proven as an effective and long-lasting treatment to improve quality of life for individuals who suffer with chronic sinusitis.
How Smar Sinus™ works?
Step 1: A balloon catheter is inserted into the inflamed sinus.
Step 2: The balloon is inflated to expand the sinus opening.
Step 3: Saline is sprayed into the inflamed sinus.
Step 4: The system is removed, leaving the sinuses open.
A MINIMALLY INVASIVE, IN-OFFICE SINUS TREATMENT
You’ll be examined by our Schaumburg ENT doctor to determine whether Smart Sinus™ is appropriate for your condition. If it is, the doctor will schedule an appointment for the surgery.
During the surgical procedure, the doctor will administer a local anesthetic to the problem areas that were identified during the initial consultation. Then, a small, flexible balloon catheter will be inserted into the nasal canal and up into the problem areas in the sinuses. The balloon catheter will then be inflated to restructure and widen the sinus pathway. Once the sinus drainage canals have been enlarged and dilated, the sinuses will then drain properly. The procedure typically only takes less than 1 hour. It’s quick and simple and patient often experience relief almost immediately.
HOW LONG WILL RELIEF LAST FROM SMART SINUS™?
Smart Sinus™ offers lasting effects. While medications may relieve sinus symptoms, they must be taken chronically and many of them cause noticeable side effects. One of the biggest benefits of Smart Sinus is the long-lasting relief that many patients experience from sinus pressure due to improved drainage.
If you’ve been diagnosed with chronic sinusitis and you’re not experiencing relief with medication, you may be a good candidate for Smart Sinus™. Schaumburg ENT offers out-patient Smart Sinus™ that can be performed in our office.
